The Blogger’s Code of Conduct

The Blogger’s Code of Conduct was a proposal by the well-known in the blogging community, Tim O’Reilly. Tim is an open supporter of free software and open source movements. His proposal was an attempt to enforce civility to bloggers. Of coursed you cannot enforce civility, it’s like enforcing love, or peace. But it’s a good thing to at least try. So the way to achieve that is with the administrators of the blogs moderating the comments and be civil themselves.

O’Reilly and his council came up with a 7 command list:
1. Take responsibility for both your own words and the comments allowed in your blog
2. Show zero tolerance for abusive comments
3. Anonymous comments should be eliminated
4. Ignore the trolls (or DNFTT, don’t fall into the provocative bait)
5. Take the conversation offline and speak directly
6. If you watch someone behaving badly, tell him so (what is he gonna do, hit you with his comments?)
7. Don’t say anything online that you wouldn’t say in person (that is plain stupidity after all)

This code was proposed due to threat against Kathy Sierra, a blogger. In 2007 she was to make an appearance at the ETech conference, which she cancelled because of death threats. The harassment went on after the media heard of these threats, with the posting of a false account of her career along with her address and her social security number.

If you can stand up for your opinions written on your blog and you are willing top follow the Code of Conduct, then you might consider creating your own blog with best blog hosting
